This afternoon someone sent me a video of Hollie Steel, who is apparently
one of the latest sensations on the British TV Show "Britain's Got Talent";
and I wanted to share my views with everyone.

If you've seen the YouTube video, then you will already know that Hollie
Steel is obviously one talented little girl. I can't imagine how much
training she must have had to endure in order to be able to sing as she
does. She is truly amazing.

Yet at the same time, because of my knowledge of God's Word, I must remind
myself that enveloping such young children in so much worldliness is wrong;
and teaching them to pursue fame and fortune is wrong, and vain, as well. As
Christians, we should all know by now that these things only bring temporary
happiness and fulfillment in life. They may fill the body, but they
certainly do not satisfy the soul. As Jesus Himself taught in the Gospels:

"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose
his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?"
Mark 8:36-37, KJV

And the Apostle John also wrote in his first Epistle:

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man
love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the
world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of
life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."
1 John 2:15-16, KJV

Fame and fortune is all about the pride of life, and being someone. It is
about making a name for yourself. Well, guess what? That is exactly what the
people at the Tower of Babel wanted to do as well before God confused them,
as we see here:

"And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may
reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad
upon the face of the whole earth."
Genesis 11:4, KJV

I must also wonder how much pressure Hollie's parents are putting on her to
achieve. You have to question how much they are doing it for themselves, and
how much they are really doing it for her. Children who are put under so
much pressure because they are prodigies and possess some unique talent,
usually burn out quickly before they become adults -- look at Shirley Temple
-- and quite often, the pressures and expectations of the world for them to
excel, lead them to become rebellious, and embrace things like booze, drugs
and other vices. Just look at all of the horror stories that come out of
Hollywood on a regular basis.

I simply believe that children should be allowed to be kids for as long as
they want to be, and for as long as they need to be. Fame and fortune that
early in life only causes them to grow up too quickly, and results in
serious problems in their lives. Many simply can't cope with the demands of
such a life.

Again, Hollie Steel is a darling, talented little girl, but I feel sorry for
her, and worry about what may lie ahead for her. The world uses and abuses
people like that, and then throws them on the trash heap of the forgotten.

The person who wrote to me suggested that Hollie Steel might be the next
Julie Andrews. Well, in my view, after "The Sound Of Music", Julie Andrews
went downhill as far as I am concerned. The world got to her, and she lost
that innocence, and became involved in some really crappy acting. When she
starred in that horrible, demonic movie back in the 1980's where she bears
her breasts -- I can't remember the name of it now -- I thought to myself,
"Man, this is NOT the Julie Andrews that I know from "The Sound
Of Music".
That horrible movie totally ruined my image of her.

As you can see, I have some strong feelings about this issue. All of that
worldly nonsense just turns precious young children away from the Lord, and
teaches them the wrong values. It teaches them the false values of the
world. Our children need God and His Word, and NOT the world and its
vanities.
