  It's interesting that the long-lived prime-time soaps are the
dead-ordinary ones like Bellbird, Country Practice, Neighbours, etc. I
think the general public prefers their drama to include wins and hope
and nice people helping each other... just like the real world.

  Everyone knows you can't win them all, that arseholes exist and shit
happens, but not *all* the time. Even in Scotland.

  Noeline.

  "Sylvania Waters" was a brilliant concept by a Pommie Bastard who
came out to Oz and conned a rich Sydney Family to let him follow them
around with cameras. His concept was Neighbours-on-the-Cheap. Of
course he conned them into creating a few false crises, and edited the
shit out of it to suit the preconceived ideas that the Pommie Market
has of Australia (we all live on the water with yachts, barbies, beer, 
and drugged children on the dole).

  And we yell at each other all the time, just like Neighbours.

  It rated well, but there can be no sequel. You can only con one
familiy into making complete arseholes of themselves, ONCE. The idea
does not work twice (like a condom: on you're fucked it's fucked)
