You don't HAVE to learn programming to successfully get into the game
industry (my programming isn't quite as Zen-like as I'd prefer it to be); you
can write the plot (which usually takes 5 minutes with 3D Realms, but still),
design levels, draw art, and playtest. You don't necessarily have to know
programming; however, you should know what the limitations of hardware and
software are, and design accordingly.
Of course, if all else fails I can sign up with a gaming magazine, and sit
on the other side of the fence. Though the potential for pay isn't as high
(how many game reviewers drive Ferraris or Vipers?), you do get to play games
for a living, and everybody tells me I'm an excellent writer.

Well, if you got the Hellfire add-on for Diablo, you can look at some MPEGs
of the game in action. Looks really nice, and they've shown some in-game
action.
KP> well...i seriously doubt it will just 'boot' DNF out of the way..DN
KP> has a big cult following and many people (like me) will buy the game

Yes, I'd tend to agree with you - if people just dumped their current
favourite for whatever was new, they'd be switching games every one or two
months. It'd be especially hard to get games entrenched as deeply as the
Duke Nukem games are.
