-[ Quoting William Elliot , to Dennis Menard ]-
DM> :( When one "negotiates" with a superpower, the superpower has a
DM> tendency to negotiate, thus: Negotiate? Sure. We want -- and -- and --!
DM> However, if we don't get it, we're going to take our ball and go home.
WE> Let them. Now if they said 'gimme or will take -your- ball and go
WE> home.'
Yes; that's been done too. But there's little one can do when the only law
recognized by a superpower is it's own (ie, Int'l Law becomes irrelevant).
DM> Once upon a time, superpowers used to be called Empires. The Romans
DM> had an empire; then the British had one ... not as long, though. Now
DM> the U.S. has one, though we call it a superpower. Question: How long
DM> will it last? And what will replace it? :)
WE> The sun never sets on the British Empire? Now here's my plan. Briton
WE> obtains a colony in the land of the midnight sun and Briton obtains a
WE> colony down under again in the other land of the midnight sun.
:) Yes; that's been done. However, it doesn't address the longevity of the
empire, does it?
DM> Nothing applies to Quebec except what Quebec wants applied to it. And
DM> even they don't know what that is: half want this ... the other half
DM> wants that. :) :) Trying to explain Quebec (unless you're a
DM> Quebecois) is rather like proving the existence of God. :)
WE> Schizophrenia?
Right; Canada and Quebec, both. :)
DM> Medical Association seems to have assumed the same general position
DM> as its U.S. counterpart regarding Preemies. What is different is the
DM> public medical system in Canada vs the private one in the U.S.
WE> What? I thought you have a one payer health care system. How does
WE> this make a difference about treating of premies?
Concern about costs is effectively made irrelevant; there is no extra money
to be made by hospitals using heroic, or special, measures keeping lives of
questionable viability alive.
DM> A few months ago, a doctor (New Brunswick, I think) was charged with
DM> MURDER of one of her patients (ie, a mercy-killing). I've heard
DM> nothing recently. I'll see if I can do a follow-up.
WE> Our famed doctor has been charged many times and they couldn't find a
WE> jury that would convict him.
Yes; but Kervorkian worked "outside" the medical community, did he not? The
case in New Brunswick involved a doctor treating her patient in hospital.
