What happened to your off-line reader? Noticed that you were quoting

A gals gotta do what a gals gotta do . Heat can kill and you knew that!

Yesterday, I cleaned out (again) my small portable air cleaner in the bird
room. Took it apart and shook out all the feather dust. It was amazing to
see just how much was in there. Handfulls, literally. Perhaps the coils on
the evaporator are fouled up with dust on your dehumidifier. Take a good
look at the coils and clean (high pressure water is best) them, that might
cure your problem. A three year old dehumidifier should not make more heat
(because it is 3 years old). If it cannot expell the heat out the coils, it
will just overheat and potentially destroy itself. As you probably know, a
dehumidifier works like a refirgerator -- they tend to last a long time.

Perhaps, but since most basements are below grade, the earth becomes a large
heat sink and will tend to be cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
Water from deep wells tends to be in the mid 50's I believe. I had the
choice of putting my breeders on the second floor spare bedroom or the
basement ... I chose the basement mainly for thermal reasons.
