FR| A simple home office furnishings idea.
| Tired of those little standard sized office waste baskets that are hard
to
|hit from 3 feet and out? Is it overflowing most of the time?
| At our home-based word processing business, we go through a lot of
aper,
|catalogs, junk mail, and our waste basket was often full halfway through a
|single day!
| Our solution was to get a bigger basket! We bought a plastic laundry
bask
|for use as an office waste basket. It's very wide at the top, hard to tip
|over, and has enough capacity to get through a regular day (or two!).
My solution (single room office) is to use a paper shopping bag (25#?)
so often received from the supermarket to carry food home. I set it in
a cardborad box that keeps it alighned upright. I may have more than
one at any time as other temporary work areas arise.
I usually let each bag get about 2/3 full of papers, etc, then compress
it down (apply one foot) and transfer it the kitchen to be topped off
with normal food garbage. In this way, I disguise it as normal house
waste, have a suitable under-pad which readily absorbs food seepage, and
have only one garbage pickup for my combined house and business. The
business refuse accounts to less than 1/2 of the total amount, and since
we are now empty-nesters, it passes otherwise unnoticed. If any one
tries to "read my garbage", they will have to do so after wallowing
through smelly food drippings, old coffee grinds, and stale bananna
peels..
