BA>Word processing will be a priority. The difference of opinion between
BA>spreadsheet versus database is instructional to me. What kind of things
BA>do you think 11-year-olds might do with a database? With a spreadsheet?
BA>The power of the spreadsheet, with it's ability to graph, and calculate
BA>seems like it should make it very useful. A good thing also
BA>about MS Works is that it includes all three programs. It's the one I'm
BA>using here at home this summer to learn about spreadsheets and
BA>databases. Summer sure is going fast.
I think that databases are easier to learn, overall, but in retrospect -
I might buy the idea of focusing on the spreadsheet because of the
graphing. Just keep the functions simple so that you don't lose the
slower kids - nothing worse than taking something that can be fun and
making it burdensome.
We use MS Works with the kids as well. We have a few licenses for
Office Pro for the staff - Powerpoint is a GREAT program for teachers to
build lessons around.
Have you had any contact with Hyperstudio? It's all the rage around
here - a great program which kids can use to write multi-media reports.
Originally written for the Mac, the newest version will be out for the
PC late this summer.
