subject: what are we? part 2

CM> SB> OK, if you really believe in total free enterprise, you would want me
  > SB> to get rid of my food co-op. Is this true?
CM> Not at all, you are not the goverment and you co-op because you
  > want to save money, this is a good way for people to help each
  > other .
OK. Again I see us having a basic agreement, while using different
words. I will try to keep that in mind when we disagree in the future.
I would certainly not want the government to interfer with my co-op.
CM> Back when I was still able to work , this was when I was 30 and
  > the guy really wanted to hire me . I was a good employee worked
  > hard as a eng-er made little money but , Im not complaining about
  > that I choose the job . When I was making $5.ph here, in NYC I
  > could have made $25.ph diffrent states diffrent rates etc...
Someone I know of (but don't personally know) was making $6 an hour in
California. Her sister moved her up to New York State. She's making
$40,000 a year doing exactly the same job. There really *are*
significant regional differences in pay.
There are significant regional differences in costs of living too,
however. In Hawaii, a cheap house costs $350,000 dollars. The same
house goes for about $35,000 where my sister lives in the mountains of
Kentucky. It would go for about $50,000 around here.
Interestingly enough, around here, it's actually cheaper to buy, then to
rent. Rent rates are outlandish. Almost everybody I know who is
renting, because they couldn't get enough together for a down payment
(which didn't matter with us, because we bought under the VA bill, and a
down payment wasn't required) are paying more each month in rent than we
are paying in mortgage.
CM> SB> I believe you and I probably have different strengths and weaknesses.
  > SB> There are probably things I do better than you. There are probably
  > SB> things you do better than me. So we are not equal in every area. In
  > SB> some things you are superior, and in some things I am superior. But

  > SB> *still* believe that you and I are of equal worth.
CM> don't believe in a superior race , just superior individuals
  > they are in all races. trying hard here to explain .........
I believe there are people who are superior over other people in skills
and in talents. But I believe our innate value is the same, regardless
of skills and talents. And I also believe that every other person we
come in contact with has something to teach us. It might not be math,
or scuba diving, or auto mechanics. But they still have *something* to
teach us.
CM> SB> Although I think your message about being a Christian is sincere, I
  > SB> think, overall, that you are being sarcastic here. If you are not
  > SB> being sarcastic; if you are saying something in all seriousness, let
me
  > SB> know, and I will respond to it accordingly.
CM> you are correct , I say bigot because I know the meaning of the
  > word it has nothing to do with race or thinking others are good
  > or bad it deals only with a religious opinion . I as a Christian
  > do not believe in forcing my religious views or opinions on others.
  > we are all free in America to have our own religious opinions
  > as long as the do not harm others etc.... don't you wish everyone
  > felt this way !
Yes, I do wish everybody felt that way. Sometimes I get so frustrated
with everyone trying to convert me. It's particularly frustrating when
they're trying to convert me to nuances of a religion I already believe
in, because their nuances are the only true interpretation, and,
therefore, mine are wrong.
But maybe I've been guilty of this with you in the political arena.
