Neither LBJ's social legislation program (Great Society) or the 1960s Sexual
Revolution by themselves can be held totally responsible for the decay of the
`American Empire.' Many contributing factors are at play including
overpopulation - particularily in urban centres. In many respects, the Sexual
Revolution was an effect (a symptom) rather than a cause as America dealt
with the Cold War, Vietnam War, Race War and the War on Poverty. As the
younger generation escaped to drugs to cope with the turmoil - `turn on, tune
in and drop out' - , inhibitions loosened and promiscuity became the order of
the day.
