Interesting. I rather like that feature. You can always override it by
simply removing the filter and then putting it back in (a very easy
procedure). That resets the mechanical spring.

There may be a reason why they're cheaper. In the July '97 Conumer Reports,
it was rated sixth out of seven faucet-mounted filters tested. The Pur was
rated second, but the Pur Plus, a better filter, and the one I have, was not
tested.
FYI, the seven, in order, were the Culligan WaterWare FM-2 (VG), the PUR
FM-1000C (VG), the NordicWare 78100 (G), the Ametek FF-100 (F), the Sears
WaterWorks Deluxe 625.345300 (F), the Teledyne Instapure F-2C (F) and the
Pollenex WP300 (P). (VG=Very Good; G=Good; F=Fair; P=Poor)
