 northwestern Pakistan, sparking riots during the Muslim sect's most
 important holiday. At least 22 people were killed and dozens injured,

AP - Hundreds of Shiite Muslims and Sunnis clashed in a western Afghan
 city Thursday during an important Shiite festival, hurling grenades and

    Nigerians warned of danger of bird flu infection (Reuters)

Reuters - International experts urged Nigerians on Thursday to avoid
 contact with sick fowl to prevent infection with the deadly H5N1 bird
 flu virus after it was found in Africa for the first time.

    Japan Tobacco Profit Up on Cost Reductions (AP)

AP - Japan Tobacco Inc., the nation's biggest cigarette maker, said
 Thursday its profit rose 25 percent for the nine-month period through

 tobacco sales.
