A co-worker I knew in the 70s and 80s told me of people who were hit by
the .45 slug. One story involved a man who robbed the ticket booth at a
movie theatre. The lady in the booth gave him everything he asked for, but
she had pressed a secret button under the counter top in front of her.
That called the manager, who came running with a .45 in his hand. As the
robber ran down the street, the manager hollered his three obligatory (to
him), 'stop or I'll shoot'. When he finally fired, the robber did a
summersault in mid air and landed on his face, nearly half a block away.
He had only been hit in the little finger and the impact had sent him
sailing. Then there was the story about the guy who robbed two Navy
SPs at gun point, who were carrying a bag of mail they had just picked up
from the post office. That one is a grusome tale indeed.
