OS/2 was.  Most of the programs I ran within it from 1992-1995 were DOS programs.

Well, in defense of Linux, you'd have to know a lot about Unix to be
comfortable wit it.  I think that takes a certain mindset and I don't have
it.

True enough, but there still remains some cases (and there shouldn't) where
if the www is omitted, you won't wind up with anything more than a
google-type search result page(s).  Generally speaking, the http:// and www
should be automatically added.  I noticed that dictionary.com does not
require www.  There are probably many others.
