Hi Erica,
EP|DB The barn I board my horse at (one of them, the rest are at
ome)
EP|DB is run by an Olympian and her International Calibre husband. I haven't
EP|DB been up there in a while and, I just found out recently that he had
EP|DB coliced REALLY bad last week. A friend from the barn told me and, the
EP|DB people who run the barn never called me. I want to stay there because
EP|DB the coaching is so good but, after that incident, I don't knw what I
EP|DB should do. I love the other boarders up there too. I am thinking of
EP|DB bringing him home and trailering up there for lessons and during the
EP|DB winter go to a different barn that may not be as good. Does this sound
EP|DB reasonable to any one??? An incident like this happened before and, it
EP|DB was a friends horse who broke his leg and she didn't find out until 2
EP|DB days later when she went up to ride him. Any suggestions as to what I
EP|DB should do? This horse has Olympic potential as well as I. I just
on't
EP|DB think that this was a fair and wise decision to make about not calling
EP|DB me. PLEASE HELP!!!
I'm *really* sorry to read the above. :-(((
I'm not qualified in any way to advise you, but my gut instinct suggests
that (subject to cost), you get a lawyer to draw up a contract for the
stables to sign. It should clearly state their future responsibilities
and associated penalties. I assume Canada has a national association who
could offer you some help. In the meantime, there are many in here who
become active when the need arises!
If you've been keeping in touch with the pet echoes, you'll have come
across Tammy J Wilson. AFAIK, she isn't into horses, but she's had
*very* similar problems with other people *supposedly* looking after her
pets. She's one hell of a nice person (judging from her posts) and you'd
do well to look her up. AFAIR, she moved from BC to Toronto, so she may
well be within a few miles of you!
Please tell us about your horse. (S)he'll need to be stabled through a
Toronto winter I guess, even if a hardy breed.
I remember meeting you on another echo a year ago, but I was using my
girlfriend's computer and lost a load of posts and email when we parted.
Anyway, looking forward to more info from you. You might have come
across people who don't care as much as they claim, but I promise you
that the regs in here care every bit as much as you do!
Got to be up for work in 3 hours and want to post this first. :-(
All the best to both of you and *keep smiling*!
Dave
