COSTS & CONSIDERATIONS
PERSONAL SPACE
Sea Safaris use a 57 foot trawler which is 8 ft
shorter/smaller than the 65ft. sailboats that Blackbeard
Cruises uses.
However, the sailboat has only two decks, the sleeping area
below and the main deck. The trawler has the additional
sun deck for a total of three decks or levels.
On the trawler I felt I had a great deal more room than on
the Blackbeard sailboat, I have sailed with Blackbeard
twice. The only way to quantify this feeling of more space
is to do the following math.
            >>>>>>>>>>>
Blackbeard sails with a crew of 5 and 18 passengers. Sea
Safaris uses a crew of 2 and 12 passengers. This works out
to 2.83 foot of boat per passenger on the BlackBeard
sailboat and 4.07 foot of boat per person on the Sea
Safaris trawler. Or in other words, per person one has 44%
more space on the trawler than on the sailboat.
>>>>>>>
COSTS
Cost wise, the Sea Safaris is around $125.00-$175 per person
cheaper than the Blackbeard. However, when one considers
the more space person on the trawler at the lower cost, less
crowded dive sites and such, the true value for your
dollar is realized.
Recommendations
First::I would make sure I had Jerry Kundert as captain. He
is most competent, runs a good boat, is easy to get along
with and does not do a bad job on the guitar.
Second::Make arrangements to get a mate/cook to handle the
food preparation chores. This will ensure better meals and
a more scheduled approach to eating.
Third::Decide your intinerary before you sail. The captain
will present choices to the group as weather conditions and
such dictate, the group should decide if they wish to motor
and visit the islands, dive, or play tourist. The captain is
very accommodating, but the the group has to make the
choice.
