It sounds about what I was thinking of: minimise all (open windows), stuff
around with something or other, then, restore all the previously open
windows to their prior state.  The 'undo' option isn't shown unless all you
do is minimise all and then immediately right-click the task bar.

 MM> Windows key + Shift + M will do it. Or right click on the taskbar and
 MM> select Show Open Windows.

Okay, I'll check that out.  Thanks.  BTW, I got around the problem ages ago
by running a 'desktop' menu-bar that allows access to desktop icons without
needing to go anywhere near minimising anything.  It seems a little faster,
besides, not having to minimise in the first place.
