Much thanks to Tim at Mac-1 for that supposidly stock R8 spring he sold
me. Little did I know that upon installation of the spring and a new
leather seal that my petite HW50 would shoot 7.9 gr pellets at 1050 fps
(19 ft-lbs) and 10.5 gr pellets at 850 fps (16.5 ft-lbs)! I does seem
kind of loud now :) Once the smoke clears out of the barrel I notice
that my once bright shiny barrel is now completely covered with black
thick residue.
One would start to suspect dieseling about now......
(especially since the gun should be shooting at 8-9 ft-lbs, not 19!)
I realize that a new leather seal will probably diesel a little, but this
airgun would shoot 21 grains worth of pellets (2 heavy Pemiers) with
combustion still occuring.
The only thing that concerns me a little is that I soaked the new seal
in what was supposidly silicon chamber oil. Why I say supposidly is that
this container of "chamber oil" and a bunch of other stuff was obtained
from a gun nut who picked it up from the estate of the late Ladd Fanta
(airgun writer). I am starting to wonder what is really in that bottle.
At this point I think I'll take the airgun apart and see what condition
the seal & spring are in. I fear I'll need to resize a new leather seal
because I doubt the supposid chamber oil can be cleaned from the existing
seal.
Any thoughts?
I guess I could just shoot it in its present state and enjoy the added
velocity! :(
Thanks
Charles
