RR> A vote for _anyone_ without a good chance of

RR> that they face no real threat. Wow, what a decisive blow that is.
DA> Well, if the probability of victory is your

Cute. Read it in context. I was talking about an opponent to Clinton. You
know that.
RR> "mandate" to do more. Worse, he will undoubedly have a coat-tail
RR> effect if he succeeds. When the Dems get back
RR> at the wheel they will
RR> undo everything that has so far been won.
DA> You're making a false assumption. The Congressional races are looking
DA> very good this year. The most likely outcome is
DA> that Clinton will be re-
DA> elected and wind up facing a Congress that's more Republican, more
DA> conservative and more pro-gun than any in the last thirty years.
Now _that_ is a false assumption. The AFL-CIO, NEA, AARP, media, etc. are
throwing everything they have at the republicans, both in the presidential
and house campaigns. The local rep candidate is always tied to Dole\Gingrich,
making it a 2-for-1 ad. The latest ad tells how Dole wanted to "gut Social
Security, repeal the Brady law that pevented 60,000 criminals from getting
guns", etc. but was thwarted by good ol' Bill and the dems.
Since these ads aren't put out by the Clinton campaign they are freebies for
their causes. Worse, the press parrots them and the result is the great mass
of the general public believes the crap and is in a state of panic and
jumping behind the democrats.
I will be _very_ surprised if the republicans hold onto even the slimmest of
majorities. They will probably go back to minority status.
Labor, trial lawyers, NEA, AARP, et al, have their members whipped to a froth
against the reps. Add in the permanently demo factions, including the welfare
set and the people who make a living off of them, and it doesn't leave much
for the other side to rely on.
A sad situation, but one we have to face. Fractioning what little opposition
we can muster is counter-productive.
