What am I ? A chemist? ;-)
Different areas, different waters, just that there can be other
things sides chlorine, depends on how your city treats water,
what is already in the water, etc.
Just observing that water standing is allowed to let
any other trapped gases to escape it.

MC> No dirt in our water. It's too damn clean. :)
Wanna bet? Get a good Microscope and look at some "clean water" ;-)
You know the best way? use a diatom filter to filter the water before
putting it in ;-)
Then it be much cleaner ;-)
MC> Lots of dissolved limestone though. =hard.
In that case you might want to limit fish you
buy to those which do best in hard water, and
alkaline, if you lose fish, check what they
do best in before blaming it on sickness.

YIPE! You BETTER! you well could be slowly poisoning
fish, even if they don't die right off, if
any gets in it could accumulate in the fish till x x
Q
If anyplace sells water in jugs, I recommend you buy a bottle
and use that after drink the water, or of course buy a new
bucket and HIDE it from the wife ;-)
Of course maybe that ceramic shine will "wax" up the fish,
they might even look nice and shiny, until they drop dead ;-)
