Skip: These diesels are nowhere near that big. They're essentially an
automotive engine. The 6.5 Liter engines are the ones that GM instals
in their 3/4 ton pickups. They are a V-8 of 397 cu. in. displacement.
The beauty of these units for my conversion, is that they bolt right on
to the existing bell housing, and mounts. I have limited space in my
engine compartment, (app. 50") so I'm a bit limited as to what I can
squeeze in there. They are rated, (I'm told), at 200hp. The engines
I'm replacing are supposed to be 230hp. All in all I think I'll have
plenty of get up and go. As you probably know the diesel develops its
max torque at a much lower RPM than the gas engine. This should help
to get up on step a lot quicker.
Cheers!
