Award is my second favorite; it kind of grew on me over the past
couple of years. I've had problems with keeping the clock correct on it,
though. Every week, I'd have to set the clock back about a half an hour to
keep the time right. With AMI, I only need have to set it back a few seconds
ever couple of months. It does a pretty good job as far as the time.
But with Phoenix, I've had about the same problems with the clock as
Award except more severe. Most systems that have Phoenix BIOS are systems
that you purchase for a price that's way too high, like Packard Hell. If I
remember correctly from a text file in the Ralf Brown's Interrupt List
archive, there was not an option in Phoenix BIOS for the Internal Cache. My
own tests of systems with AMI and similar systems with Phoenix have shown
the systems with AMI to be significantly faster.
For instance, my friend had a 386SX20 with Phoenix and I had a 386SX25
with AMI. My CPU ran about 6 times faster when doing Integer math (I often
used Integer math for these types of test just to see how long it took to do
a number of calculations).
