Very few people know of a semi-automatic Carcano which used the same ammunition
(refer: Scotti Model X - Italian prototype).  That I think was the second
shooter's preference.  (A semi-auto has an advantage that you may appreciate.) 
There were very few in circulation but several possibly in government armouries
'for evaluation'.  Nudge, nudge...
