Hakkinen ignores mind games

(9-Jul-98) - McLaren's Mika Hakkinen has told Michael Schumacher to forget
about trying to raise the championship stakes by playing mind games.

The 29-year-old says he is ready for any psychological warfare attack from
Schumacher, which proved so successful in the Germans battle with Damon
Hill in '96.

"It worked on Damon a couple of times," said Hakkinen. "But
I don't think I will crack."

Despite increased confidence within the Ferrari camp and claims by Eddie
Irvine that McLaren has missed the boat, the Finn has remained ice-cool.

"Eddie's comments have been very funny. If it makes him happy it is
good for him, but he is fourth in the championship so he should keep his
mouth shut."

Hakkinen has seen his 22 point advantage over Schumacher reduced to just
six points as they head into this weekend's British Grand Prix at
Silverstone.

Hakkinen believes team-mate Coulthard, who he leads by 20 points, is still
as big a threat to his title chances as Schumacher, especially if the
Scot's run of ill fortune comes to an end.
