Schumacher to stay with Ferrari in '99

(8-Jul-98) - Michael Schumacher will stay with Ferrari at least until the
end of 1999.

The announcement made by Fiat boss Gianni Agnelli amounts to official
confirmation that Schumacher will not be leaving for McLaren-Mercedes next
season.

Ferrari are believed to be trying to extend the German's contract until the
end of 2001, the same duration as the contract signed by sporting director
Jean Todt

Agnelli said, "At the moment we have an agreement to 1999. Next year
is okay, and we are trying to have Michael for the future."

Further reason for Schumacher to stay is the feeling that Eddie Irvine, who
Schumacher rates as his best ever team-mate, is on the verge of signing for
his fourth year.

A Ferrari spokesman said that the team is "working to stay with Eddie.
Why not? The driver situation is stable and we don't need to change. Eddie
is doing a fantastic job this year."
