The Silverado has 18" wheels on it and it cruises 75mph under 1800 rpm. I
believe the Silverado (standard cab, short bed) also weighs slightly less
than the Rodeo. The Rodeo has 16" wheels on it, but it also has 4.11:1
gears in the back and it's loaded down with tools, including a 2 1/2 ton
floor jack. Both have a .75:1 overdrive, the Silverado has a 4.8L V8,
while the Rodeo has a 3.2L V6. The 4.8L makes quite a bit more torque than
the 3.2L, and can climb hills without down-shifting out of OD. When I
moved here, a friend of mine drove my GMC box truck (also an Isuzu) with
the household goodies in it and I followed with the Silverado, loaded with
as much that would fit in the back with me, Nancy and Zeus, our cat. The
Silverado got 22mpg because the GMC couldn't go any faster than 65mph,
downhill. You do the math.
