Hill highlights Honda's problems

(8-Jul-98) - Damon Hill has cast doubt on Honda's ability to run
competitively in Formula 1 when it returns as both a car and engine builder
next year.

The Jordan driver who has spent his season powered by the Mugen Honda V10
said, "I don't know the real situation there, but until they can prove
they can build a competitive modern-day F1 engine, they shouldn't even
consider building their own car."

Hill highlighted a number of problems with the Honda unit, "It's got a
big hollow in the torque curve," he said, "it doesn't have a very
good spread of power, and it doesn't have a lot of it where it does have
it! And it keeps breaking. We've been trying to get the message through to
them."

Hill, however, admitted that he expects to see Honda suceed, "If they
were really to do it properly, they would throw everything at it. I just
wish we could get our hands on that resource."
