JM> I'm not familiar with the "Dr. Pets" name. Were they closed down?
>I think this was a horrible chain called Doktor Pets. They were in

That's the place. AWFUL!!! They often gave cockatiels and budgies away
free if you bought a small round cage with a bunch of junk in it; mite
protector, sandpaper perch covers, gravel and boxed seed mix. Bird
torture kit in a box, free bird included...
>The demise of Doktor pets was not mourned much at my household.
We celebrated here when the last one went under. Then hot on its heels
came PASS Pets, which isn't much better. On the opening day of the one
in the local mall, they had a Sun and a lutino Indian ringneck on a
playgym. They weren't labeled. One of them was passing whole seeds in
the droppings; couldn't tell which one, though. I asked the manager
some questions about them, and called them by species names. He offered
me a job on the spot; I was the only person in the store that had
identified them correctly all day, including the "highly trained staff".
I HATE mall pet stores...
