We have used tdma in Canada for a while now and the problems seem
to be:
-the turn around time you mentioned and a somewhat mechanical
quality to voices. And if you have a voice with some types of
vocal traits, you sound like you were recorded on a cheap voice
mail system with sort of a ripple superimposed on your voice.
In Canada, we are switching to CDMA end of 1997 and the cellular
carriers will be buying new phones for all current digital
subscribers. They got into digital to pack more channels into
their spectrum and in general, the phones were intended for high
traffic areas like Toronto.
The network load in Ottawa here can get crazy at times especially
when a big convention is in town, but normally is really fairly
moderate.
