re - Believe me if most people drink because they have problems in
their lives then I would have started a LONG time ago. -
probably true! I agree with you on THAT completely. Most people
drink and drug addictively because they are addicted and either a
mental obsession or a physical compusion keeps them wanting more, once
they take the first amount of the substances they are addicted to.
Nobody really knows why, for sure - as far as I know. However SOME
scientists have actually isolated a gene in the chromosomes - they
found it on chromosome 11, IF I REMEMBER RIGHT and I may not have - a
few years back. They believe this predisposes people to have a genetic
tendency towards alcoholism and other addictions - like some people are
time bombs waiting to go off almost, when the right substance is in the
bloodstream and under the right circumstances otherwise. IS THIS
CORRECT? I DO NOT KNOW! AND AA HAS NO OPINION ON OUTSIDE ISSUES.
But it was something I personally found fascinating. It may be why
some people start to "party" but never really seem to be able to stop
and to STAY stopped for long enough to accomplish anything in their
lives until they just happen to sober up and find recovery in one form
or another. I am one such person and I am grateful to have found
recovery - deeply grateful.
