Welll back in 78 I was practicing for the "Cooper Assualt", it's a combat 
pistol match where you shoot, then run and jump over a 6' wall and go on with 
the rest of the course..
 
Hung a foot up going over the wall and when I landed it was properly on my 
right leg.. but on my left knee..  hurt like the devil but I could walk on 
it.. so I didn't think that much of it. Over the course of the next week.. it 
got worse.
 
Turned out I'd shattered the top of my tibula and ended up in a cast for as 
long as they could keep it on without endangering the knee joint.  After the 
cast was on.. it REALLY started to hurt.
