From out of the Darkness, Marie Weidemann spoke:
CF> You know, Marie, peer pressure doesn't just happen to teenagers...it
CF> happens to college students and adults as well. I was under a bit of
CF> peer pressure to start drinking when I was in college. However, as
CF> alcoholism is a disease and some think possibly some people are
CF> predisposed to become alcoholics, I happened to be one of those people
CF> that became an alcoholic through circumstances that are usually
CF> considered "a stage".
MW>
MW> So very true, Christina...peer pressure is all around..and it can do
MW> some lousy things..
Lousy things can compound, too. That's what happened to me. And, you
know, when I began telling my story at the college I went to...instead of
finding people who wanted to know more and talk about it...I unfortunately
found more people who just pitied me for being so "weak in my faith." (I
went to christian college...that'll really mean something to you Marie,
since you know what I am now.)
CF> As for people who go into bars and have just soda or orange juice...I
CF> can do that if I really want to, but for me the temptation to drink is
CF> a little too great. I haven't had a drink in a little over a year...I
CF> don't go into bars or clubs anymore...for me I have to avoid the places
CF> that serve alcohol if I want to remain on the right road for me.
MW> I know not everyone can go into a bar at all..but I have know a few
MW> bar owners that are in AA and they *have* to be there every day..they
MW> have been able to stay sober and still do their job..but this is
MW> different.. I was talking more about just anyone, alcoholic or not,
MW> having soda or orange juice..I don't have a problem and I drink soda
MW> or tomato juice when I go into a bar..
Hey, we'll have to get together and go have a soda someday.
MW> I am glad that you are doing well..and I hope others are doing the
MW> same.. One day at a time..
That's what I do. One day at a time...and now I have a little more
encouragement...two adorable kids that I want to stay sober for.
... A job is nice but it interferes with my life.
