Gel cels or sealed led acid batteries are rather good for this type of
application. Once charged, you could keep it topped up with a 60 ma wall
cube. Get a decent sealed lead acid battery  , something around 6ahr.
This should run the scanner quite a while. Another option to charge it
is a solar charger.
