RW> That has been their problem for years. In the mid-80s, a forklift driver RW> retired from GM as a millionaire, having saved most of his paycheck for RW> the 50 years he worked there and lived a poverty level life until then. That got me to think back to the last brand new car I bought. A 1977 Monte Carlo. I liked the car because it was very confortable and nice to drive on long trips; plus, it had swivel bucket seats -- something I wish my Mark VIII had. I paid $5,000 for it. Anyway, the subsequent models were overpriced and every year the price got higher and higher, especially when they began placing computers in the cars and building them in such a way that the mechanically-inclined owner could no longer work on them. One of my neighborhood friends worked for GM and I believe he retired, but I got married and moved away, so I don't know what his retirement plan was, but I imagine it was a good one. I believe he retired sometime in the '60s or '70s. RW> His last hourly rate was $16.75/hour and that was 1980 something...Today, RW> they make $75/hour... And that's about the hourly rate dealerships charge to work on your car. It's ridiculous. RW>RN> Amyway, I went back to watching "Boston Legal." RW> Don't you find it apolitical? Week before last it was about Obama v RW> McCain (shame on the McCain voter) and last week, abortion (right or RW> wrong). Yes, I do, but somehow I manage to ignore or shrug off all that "stuff" to enjoy the humorous parts of it. I quit watching it after the first season because its creator deleted the three most beautiful women he had on the show, i.e., Monica Potter, Lake Bell (would you name your child Lake?) and Rhona Mitra. Granted they were all replaced by a woman who is still beautiful (Candice Bergen), but for me that wasn't right. Anyway, I gave in and started watching it again. Some of the charm (for me) of the show is its antics. Regards, Roger ...
