Coulthard lashes out at team

(13-Jul-98) - David Coulthard apologized to his team for spinning out of
the British Grand Prix in tricky conditions -- but then demanded to know
why they had decided to put him on intermediate tyres and team-mate Mika
Hakkinen on wets at their first pit-stops.

The Scot, who drew praise for his charging drive in difficult conditions,
said: "It is so disappointing because we just seem to be making the
wrong calls at the moment.

"We had a different tyre choice for qualifying which wasn't right and
then I was in a situation which was very difficult because I was on a tyre
that was virtually a slick in wet conditions."

"The thing is I am there in the races. I am battling, I am trying to
make a race of it and I don't seem to be able to keep it together."

"I've obviously made the mistake there today, but I have got to
understand why as a team we have decided to do two different things with
the cars. That is why I was so angry, it could have worked for me but
clearly it kept bloody raining."

He added, "I've got to apologize to the fans down there because I was
so focused and intent on getting back here to try and discuss our choice
that I didn't speak to anyone down there because the emotions were running
high."
