I always got the sense that the Daleks could only be defeated at the
cost of the destruction of the Timelords, and thought it an
interesting twist that the Timelords had in fact become as great a
threat as the Daleks and had to be destroyed not as a side effect, but
in their own right.  That being said, I agree with you that now that
the Doctor has really faced that fact and taken responsibility for it,
there will likely be less brooding to result.  Not that there's
anything wrong with brooding, mind you.
