Did the same thing here.  Took a while to get the bathtub in the ground.  
Those things displace a lot of dirt.  The fish were fed about once a day, but 
other than that, fended for themselves.  It gets pretty cold here in winter 
from time to time, so the goldfish were moved indoors to a 15 gallon tank for 
the winter months.  Each spring, it was back to the bathtub.  They sure bring 
a stop to mosquito larvae- hehehe.
The end of the story is that the goldfish grew like crazy, and did very well. 
So well that they attracted the attention of a passing bear, who ate all of 
them.
