     I don't think so.  I'm having this same problem with SupraFaxModem. 
However Supras and USR never do get along... so...  it could be a number of
things.  However I must disagree with you blaming it with USR (not that I'm a
USR lover..  eewww.) but the fact is that this occurs with other modems,
including Supra with Supra.
