Hi Martin,
I am sorry you have so much trouble with the Zone 2 C's. The whole point of
Fidonet is working together, but these days a lot of people just don't
understand that.
I know a lot of people are leaving Fidonet for the internet. I have to say,
the more I deal with the internet, the more I want to keep Fidonet around.
If your internet service provider is having problems, you are just one
customer in 100 or 1000, and you have to wait for them to get around to
fixing it. A lot of time people have multiple accounts, partly to keep work
stuff and home stuff apart, but also so they can always get on somehow,
somewhere.
But with my Fidonet system, if things aren't working, I can deal with it
directly. The bad thing is, I have to fix it myself, but the good thing is,
I *can* fix it myself.
Here in Zone 1 we have it easier because there are fewer countries and
languages involved. If I have a problem or a technical question and I need
to talk to one of the Zone hubs or the *Cs, I can netmail them. Most of the
time I get friendly netmail back. Yes, there are some guys who are overcome
with their own sense of self-importance, but for the most part, if you ask
them stuff nicely, they will treat you decently. If I had been in the same
situation as you, applying for the Opus helpnode nodenumber, I don't think I
would have had the same problem. I have known my RC for years and I'm sure
he would have supported my application.
I'm glad you are staying with MEADOW even though it must be a bother to you.
I plan to stick with Fidonet and with Opus as long as it keeps going. I'll
just keep reminding these young guys (by the way I am your age) about how
things are supposed to be done.
