If you have Redhat, NE2000 support is included in the default kernal. If you
have Slackware, you have to select one of the kernals that has network
support to boot with. I don't remember how Debian does it.
The more likely problem is that your kernal isn't probing in the right place
for your net card. Check your CMOS - PCI display, or do a "cat /proc/pci" to
see what the IRQ and base address are for your net card/PCI slot. Once you
know that;
- if you are reinstalling, tell it the address/irq to probe
- otherwise, have lilo issue a
  ether=[irq],[addr],[interface]
command. If your PCI net card is on IRQ 9, address 0x6000 and is the 1st
ard;
  ether=9,0x6000,eth0
