Health Insurance coverage should be something that the government should
encourage - especially if it'll keep them out of the socialized medicine
business.

That's why it's tax deductable.  After WWII the government encourged
companies to offer health insurance in order to contain inflation and as a
stopgap until a government plan was in place.  Full health insurance was
one of HST's goals.
