How can one repent if one doesn't first acknowledge that he is a sinner? How can one first believe if he does not know of the object which is to be believed? This all reminds me of what Socrates who stated that the unexamined life is not worth the living. Faith is always based upon some apprehension of the object in which it is placed. As for > Man must take > the revelation he is given on faith without any ability to or capability > of accessing the validity of the revelation this is really a poor view of God. Nor does it take into consideration the Spirit's ministry of enlightenment and regeneration. At the moment of effectual salvation, the believer knows via the Spirit that what he is confessing and Who he is believing in. Exhaustively? Of course not. But that does not deny that Truth is apprehended. I would maintain that there are many who "confess" but they are not really confessing, but merely professing. Here enlightenment has not be apprehended. Here I think some of what Christ spoke of concerning those who "In that day cry Lord, Lord," comes to bear. Is there any meeting of the minds yet?
