subject: A new BBS on the echo

With this post, Thorny's BBS, Lawrence, Kansas joins the echo. FYI, Lawrence
is a college town of about 70,000 located in beautiful northeast Kansas, and
is home to Kansas University and the KU Jayhawk basketball team, perennial
powers in the NCAA basketball wars. We're located about 20 minutes west of
the Kansas City Metro area. Our little free 3-line board has been online here
in Lawrence for about 20 months, and can be telnetted to at the address of:
          telnet://thorny.ml.org
                    =
          telnet://24.124.36.146
You can visit some of our callers at my website:
          http://thorny.ml.org
I mention the above not by way of spamming, but only to introduce ourselves.
I added this echo at the specific request of a new user from afar, who is
also
an old online friend from another board. She once participated in this echo,
and would still, except the BBS from which she once accessed the echo is now
defunct, or not on FIDOnet any longer. :( Frankly, I don't know if she'll
be
in here at all, but the echo still seemed a logical addition to our 300+
message bases.
I am not an addict, but my
uncle is a recovering alcoholic who's been dry and sober for over 20 years,
so
I know a bit about 12-step programs. Therefore, I attempted to configure
this
echo for Anonymous posting. However, I learned that it isn't possible, with
my software, to netmail replies to messages from Anonymous echos. I'm aware
that most FIDO echos require Real Names, but I'm unwilling to configure this
echo that way; nor did I see anything in the Echo Rules which stated that
Real
Names are required. In fact, since most of us all know each other locally
here, I hate to even configure it to allow handles... would prefer
Anonymous... but due to the limitations of the software, that's what I've
done: configured it to be my ONLY FIDO echo which allows handles.
You won't see me in here again, probably, so please netmail any replies to
Greg Thornhill @1:299/121 or send Internet email to the below address.
hanks
for your time. :)
