Hi Jamie,
One thing you might consider is using the latest HP UX compiler! This
compiler (aCC) is an (almost) ANSI standard C++ compiler. As such it
supports the ANSI string class that will in time be available on ALL
(ANSI) C++ compilers. In addition, the other library classes are also
ANSI standard and hopefully portable as such. I do not know if that
is realistic for you or not. I.e. I do not know if you can get your
manager to shell out the $$ for the thing.
