Benetton confirm Mecachrome deal

(10-Jul-98) - The Benetton Formula One team finally confirmed on Friday
that they will be using Mecachrome engines in Grand Prix racing for the
next two seasons.

News of the deal was confirmed immediately after the first free practice
sessions for Sunday's British Grand Prix where Giancarlo Fisichella was
sixth fastest and Alexander Wurz eighth.

A statement from the team said: "The Mild Seven Benetton team confirms
that today negotiations were concluded and the contract signed with
Supertec Sport for the supply of engines for the 1999 and 2000 seasons.

"Benetton Formula is delighted to have secured continuity in the
supply of engines that have provided the team with 12 Grand Prix victories
since 1995 and looks forward to the next two seasons with enthusiasm."

The Supertec Sport company is run by former Benetton managing director
Flavio Briatore.
