Got this cdrom here calling itself "PC Electronics Plus", the descriptive caption under the title reads "Tutorials, Circuit Analysis, Circuit Design, Schematic CAD, and many more great Electronic Programs"... I've been spending some time today poking around with what's on here, looking at stuff. Some of it is pretty old, and *really* clunky. Much of it is dos-based. Only a couple of the packages seemed to need windows (apparently 3.1, not 95 or later!). Some of them wouldn't run properly -- it amazes me how long stuff like that can hang around and propagate itself. One or two locked up the desqview window that I was running things in, and one locked up the whole machine forcing a reset. There was one set of packages that included schematic _and_ board design software. I could get the board part to load sample stuff, but the schematic part wouldn't work for me. Then there was another that offered to load the sample data, but didn't appear to do anything when I selected that option. I'm going to play around with this stuff some more, and see what I can come up with, as far as anything satisfactory with regard to being able to do either schematics or board layout. If any of you folks know of later packages, ones that actually work, I'd be interested in hearing about it. I'd also be particularly interested in hearing of freeware or open-source stuff, especially after wading through 100K doc files full of definitions of shareware and lots of legalese, disclaimers, and similar rot. You guys have any favorites in this sort of thing? ---* Origin: TANSTAAFL BBS 717-838-8539 (1:270/615) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 270/615 150/220 379/1 633/267 |
