Hi, David.
DH> I still think that these Star Trek/Marvel Universe crossovers
DH> don't work. The world of super-heroes just doesn't lend itself
DH> well to Star Trek, IMO. In the end, the only reason I bought this
DH> comic was 'cuz I've managed to get completely caught up on all the
DH> DC, Marvel & Malibu Star Trek series... and, after spending all
DH> that time & money achieving that, I wasn't NOT going to buy
DH> it...
DB> I just don't think that The X-Men really fitted in with the TREK
DB> Universe. Perhaps a character like Thor or Dr. Strange would be
DB> more practicle, but even that would be a bit akward! I don't
DB> recall Marvel having any 23rd Century, or 24th Century Heroes, but
DB> if I was to do a Trek/Marvel Character x-over, I would use
DB> descendants or successors of that time era.
DB> I think Silver Surfer/Star Trek would make for an interesting
DB> story!
I think whoever gets the rights to the TREK characters next
(whether it's DC, Dark Horse, Image, Topps... whoever)... I think they
should completely refrain from crossing their super-hero characters
over with it. I mean, if Marvel had chosen to cross Dr. Who (which,
through their Marvel UK imprint, they do have rights to), I think that
could've/would've worked. If Topps secures the rights to TREK and
decides to have Fox Mulder & Dana Scully encounter Captain Sisko and
the crew of the USS Defiant... I'm interested in seeing that too.
However, the super-steroidy musculature of male super-heroes, the
anoriexicly-thin-yet-excessively-proportioned look of most female
super-heroes, the spandex, the completely cartoony dialog just doesn't
work within the context of Star Trek, IMO. It looks weird and out of
place... because it is weird and out of place, IMO. Unfortunately, I
don't think the Surfer would fare any better than any of the others.
Actually, Marvel may not have shown much in the way of heroes
from the 23rd or 24th centuries... but there's certainly enough of 'em
surrounding those 2 centuries to imply there could be. First you've
got your modern day heroes in the 20th Century... then you've got
stuff like your 2099 characters... which are on the verge of being in
the 22nd century... and then you've got the Guardians Of The Galaxy
who're way out somewhere around the 30th century. Killraven's "War Of
The Worlds" could fit in there too somewhere (I'm just not sure what
year those stories take place in).
Talk to you later.
David
