Villeneuve rejects conduct code

(10-Jul-98) - Williams ace Jacques Villeneuve has rejected a suggestion
that F1 needs a code of driving conduct.

"I think it would be very difficult to have a written code," he said.

"It's difficult from the outside to know what someone is doing inside
his car. You just need mutual respect. Once you know what people do, then
you just pay them back."

Villeneuve, sitting 3 feet from Schumacher, left little doubt about whom he
was speaking.

The Canadian criticized Schumacher's driving tactics in last month's
Canadian Grand Prix. In that race, Villeneuve's teammate Heinz-Harald
Frentzen was nearly forced off the track by Schumacher.

"Taking risks for yourself is one thing, putting other people at risk
is another thing," said Villeneuve.
