Hi Neils On (02 Jan 97) Niels Petersen wrote to Roy McNeill... I went to a hardware shop that has a timber yard attached, wandered out the back and told an unkempt hairy person what I wanted. "Sure", he says, "bring em in on Monday." "Rough cost?" asks I. "Box of beer", sez he. "Done!" sez me. So now I have 12 planks 22mm thick, instead of 8 planks somewhere between 25 and 27 mm and four more up around 28 to 30. I can now see the grain (nice!) and the flaws much more clearly. Picking out the best ones for the benchtop will be much easier. They are now back in the stack, waiting for me to make a few more spacers to get the inter-spacer distance down. One more thing - after the cut planks had been in the van in the sun for a few hours, there was a strong "new wood" smell, implying that the freshly planed wood was fairly damp. Looks like they'll take a *long* time to dry. Thanks again for the suggestions. I'll send you a photo when I eventually get the top made (if you're still in this world, of course...)(compassionate sod, aren't i) Cheers --- PPoint 1.88* Origin: Silicon Heaven (3:711/934.16) SEEN-BY: 711/934 712/610 624 @PATH: 711/934 |
