-=> Quoting KEITH SCUDDER to ALAN MORRISON <=-
KS> Sadly I saw that between the 71' engines and the 72's there was a big
KS> drop inpower, but I worked on a 72 SS Chevelle with a 454/270 HP
AM>That's still a lot of power for a Chevelle considering the torque is
AM>still quite high. A lot of the detuning took away the top-end HP.
KS> I may have driven this guy's car less than a minute, but it still had
KS> that muscle-car feeling in it. I was surprised to see his Chevelle
KS> had dual-points on it, that wasn't a normal was it?
I don't think so... although a CA car may have had some parts to conform
to emissions standards I'm unaware of. Some hi-po Chevys in the 60's had
a transistorized system, and by '74 they went to HEI.
KS> Nomad around and very few parts were stock, but this guy said he
KS> hadn't touched the engine?
Probably a Mallory or Accel dual-point. Did it have windows on the cap?
KS> BTW, I have the book "50 years American Automobiles", but it only
KS> goes up to 1989, is there a newer book?
AM>would prefer one from 1950-1999 or similar.
KS> I'll be checking the bookstores and if I see anything you might like,
KS> I'll jot it down and mention it to ya.
Cool... I look at the larger bookstore near here often, but it seems the
Auto book section is not great. Mostly Chiltons manuals, but they do
carry a ton of magazines from US and Europe.
