BUSH'S GLOBAL POLICY
A POSITIVE FUTURE FOR AMERICA NOT INCLUDED

By: Ted Lang

Any government system that puts all authority in a man will sooner or
later have a bad man or woman in full charge with indisputable authority
that cannot be challenged. Such an individual will use the iron fist of
government force to protect his authoritarian grip on the populace.

It is therefore worth noting that the Founders harbored fears relative
to the weaknesses of men knowing that government always expands itself
through the consolidation and centralization of power. Even the manner
of selecting such a powerful individual no longer originates via the
American political process dependent upon grassroots competition and
a political convention - a candidate is selected in secret behind closed
doors by the rich and powerful.

As EtherZone's Jim Moore pointed out citing Neil Mackay's article,
"Bush planned Iraq 'regime change' before becoming president," posted
in the Scottish Sunday Herald of September 15, 2002, Mackay spoke of
the creation of a "global Pax Americana." A document called
"Rebuilding America's Defences: Strategies, Forces and Resources for
a New Century" was written by the neo-conservative think tank identified
as Project for the New American Century, or simply PNAC.

Charley Reese in his column entitled "Flimflam" cited the same PNAC
mentality as regards our foreign policy, but adds yet another dimension;
he cites what is in the best interests of Israel. In his March 5th column,
Reese offers: "First, we have a chief executive so naive about the world
outside of Texas, he probably couldn't find a lot of countries on the map.
Second, he has surrounded himself with American Likudniks -
supporters of Israel's right-wing government. Even The Washington Post
reported recently what I've been saying for months: that Bush's policy is
identical to that of Ariel Sharon's, the Israeli prime minister. I've said
that Bush has been acting like Sharon's puppet; The Washington Post
story quoted a U.S. official as saying Sharon has 'played Bush like a
violin.'"

Reese goes on: "The Israelis have long feared Iraq, Iran and North Korea
(because they fear it will sell missiles to Iran). What a coincidence that
those three countries are Bush's 'axis of evil.'" Reese points out that an
article in a 1996 issue of the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, supplied
information that prior to their current positions, Dick Cheney, John
Bolton [under Secretary of State for Arms Control], Richard Perle
[Defense Policy Board], Douglas Feith [Department of Defense] and
David Wurmser were advisors to the Jewish Institute for National
Security Affairs. Reese identifies this organization as pro-Israeli.

Reflecting upon their work, Reese offers: "[They] wrote a policy proposal
for Benjamin Netanyahu, then Israel's prime minister. Included in their
advice were tips on how to manipulate the American government (OK,
even the Haaretz reporter says the report comes 'dangerously close' to
dual loyalty) and advice to drop the peace plan, drop the idea of land for
peace and concentrate on toppling Saddam Hussein and eventually
replacing other Middle Eastern governments in order to create a safe
environment for Israel."

Reese then identifies most of these individuals along with Donald
Rumsfeld, Willaim Kristol, Paul Wolfowitz and Bill Bennett, amongst
some others, who comprise the Project for the New American Century
"think tank." The central theme of PNAC is best described by Toronto
Sun columnist Eric Margolis in his March 2nd article "Bush's war is not
about democracy." Margolis summarizes PNAC's intentions: "1) prevent
any nation ever challenging U.S. global hegemony; 2) dominate oil. The
aggression against Iraq is not about oil per se, it is about control
of oil."

Margolis laments: "Since 9-11, Americans have been subjected to the
most intense propaganda campaign from their government since World
War I. Much of the mainstream U.S. media have been intimidated by
the Bush administration into unquestionably amplifying its party line.
Or, in the worst tradition of yellow, jingoist journalism, they act as
cheerleaders for the war." Margolis points out that Americans are very
ignorant of the facts, and many falsely believe that the Bush
administration has connected Iraq to the 9-11 attacks - they have not.

As the Bush administration justifies a preemptive attack upon a nation
that has done nothing to either injure or provoke us, a nation that has
not committed military incursions upon our borders, Bush continues to
allow illegal aliens and criminals to cross into our nations territories
and states uninhibited. These illegals can and do bring with them illegal
drugs and other controlled substances, weapons and firearms, yet this
very real threat to the security of the people of the United States
continues unchecked by an administration only concerned with the best
[oil] interests of the rich and powerful.

Again Margolis: "Many Americans simply don't understand their
leadership is about to plunge the nation into an open-ended, dangerous
colonial war. All the propaganda about democracy, human rights and
regional stability is the same kind of double-talk used by 19th century
British and French imperialists who claimed they were grabbing Africa
and Asia to bring the benefits of Christian civilization to the heathens."

And finally, Reese: "If you watch the silly cable-news shows, you will
recognize many of these [aforementioned PNAC] names as part of the
parade of 'experts' in favor of war with Iraq. The American people are
being played for suckers. Their sons and daughters will be cannon
fodder in a war that might benefit a foreign country but will greatly
damage the interest of our own."

Margolis agrees quoting veteran diplomat John Kiesling, who resigned in
protest over the Bush administration's shortsightedness: "Our fervent
pursuit of war with Iraq is driving us to squander international legitimacy
that has been America's most potent weapon of both offense and
defense since the days of Woodrow Wilson."
